The Odyssey Bookshop's

15th Children's Writing Contest
For all kids Grades 1 through 5

Write us a story.
Use your imagination.
Use your creativity.
Stories can be wild and fantastical, or about something you know in real life, 
or anything in between.

Stories should be no longer than 600 words. Stories should be typed on a computer or typewriter, but we encourage first- and second-graders to handwrite their stories. Stories can be in English or in Spanish. Illustrations are optional but encouraged.

Best Story prizes will be awarded at each grade level as follows:

1st Prize — $20 Odyssey Gift Certificate

2nd Prize — $15 Odyssey Gift Certificate

3rd Prize — $10 Odyssey Gift Certificate


One $20 Odyssey Gift Certificate will also be awarded at each grade level for the Best Story written in Spanish, and one $15 Odyssey Gift Certificate will be awarded at each grade level for Best Illustration.

Some Simple Things To Remember

• All entries MUST be accompanied by an official entry form and be submitted at The Odyssey Bookshop by 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. Remember to include the child’s grade level!

• One entry per child.

• Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, and quality of writing, including grammar, punctuation and spelling. There should also be evidence that the child completed the project independently.

• Winners will be notified by Monday, May 12.. Prizes will be given out at the Awards Ceremony on Sunday, May 18, at 2 pm, and First Prize-winners will be invited to read their stories at the ceremony.

• Stories may be picked up after the awards ceremony—please pick up stories by June 15—or, if you include a stamped self-addressed envelope with your story, we will mail it to you.
