ON THE AIR

The Odyssey Bookshop is one of five independent bookstores participating in WAMC's Roundtable on Tuesday mornings, just after the 10:00 news. People from the Odyssey will be on about once a month, talking about our favorite books.

Click here to see the list of the books we have talked about.

KEN LIBBRECHT'S FIELD GUIDE TO SNOWFLAKES by Kenneth Libbrecht (Voyageur Press $12.95). Last year's hot gift book was "The Little Book of Snowflakes."  This book takes the beauty of snowflakes one step further.  After admiring the pictures, grab a magnifying glass and head outside to identify the different types of flakes yourself!  Do you know the difference between a radiating dendrite and a stellar dendrite?  (Clue: there's a quick identification guide on p. 31.)  Of course there are more gorgeous pictures, but there's also some tips on how to best observe, identify, and photograph snowflakes on your own!

A BAKER'S FIELD GUIDE TO CUPCAKES by Dede Wilson (Harvard Common Press $17.95) Once again, Dede Wilson comes out with a great new cookbook!  This one is chock full of creative and easy (and some more challenging) recipes for fun.  Cupcakes are the newest treat in entertaining, and this book will give you ideas for your office holiday party (Christmas Tree Cupcakes - p. 104), summer picnics (Sunflower Cupcakes - p. 60), Halloween costume party (Spider Web Cupcakes - p. 94), an elegant evening at home (Chocolate Drizzle Cupcakes - p. 130), or just a morning treat (Strawberry Shortcake Cupcakes - p.78).  It's all in there!  (And don't forget to bring in samples for your friendly bookstore staff...)
