ON THE AIR

The Odyssey Bookshop is now one of four independent bookstores participating in WAMC's Roundtable on Tuesday mornings, just after the 10:00 news. People from the Odyssey will be on about once a month, talking about our favorite books.

Click here to see the list of the books we have talked about.

Used, Signed and Remaindered Books

Throughout the Odyssey Bookshop, you will see this label on the spines or backs of many books.

These are used or remaindered books, and they are generally half price or less.

Many of our used books are in fine condition , practically indistinguishable from the new, except for the label and the price. There are also books on the shelf that are now out of print, so for those of you who like to browse, you may find some treasures on the Odyssey’s shelves.

Old and  Rare

Speaking of treasures, be sure to see our two cabinets holding old and rare books.  They are on the second floor, near the top of the stairs. These are all old books, some real old, many between $5.00 and $10.00, with some priced  higher. If you are hooked on old books, you will enjoy these book cases

Remaindered Books

Remaindered books are publishers’ overstock. Usually they are are unmarked and as good as new, but they are less than half price. Many remainders are included with the new and used books in their sections, but we have lots of remainders upstairs, on the square table in the middle of the room, and on the shelves next to the mystery section.

Signed Books

You will find books signed by the authors in several places throughout the store. On the large table near the store’s entrance on the right side (coming into the store), there are books signed by authors who have recently read at the store. These books are priced at normal retail – we don’t increase the prices of newly signed books.

Also, be on the lookout for signed books throughout the store. Usually a book that has been signed will have a label saying ‘signed’ on the spine or cover.

Finally, in the Children’s Department, we often have lots of signed children’s books by authors such as Tomie DePoalo, Jane Yolen, Marguerite Davol, Jane Dyer, and Anne Hunter.

We buy Used Books.

Cleaning out your attic? Need room on your bookshelves?

The Odyssey Bookshop buys used books for cash or credit (and we give more for credit).  Bring them in Monday - Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. or Sunday noon - 5:00, and we would be happy to take a look. We offer cash or store credit (we can offer more in store credit).

Here's what we like to buy:

Fiction (paperback)
Classics (paperback)
History and other nonfiction
Mystery and Science Fiction (paperback)
Art / architecture / photography books
New England and other travel literature
(Of course, we don't buy all books in these areas, but these are the ones we are most likely to take.)  We buy books in good condition - gently read.

The sections we generally don't buy include:

Biography
Self Help / Popular Psychology
Computers
Cookbooks (except antique cookbooks)
Romance
Hardcover fiction, mysteries
Travel guides
Children's books (unless they're real old and rare).

If you have too many books to bring in, please call us at 413-534-7307 to set up an appointment for one of our staff to come to your house to take a look.
